MUSIC’S NEXT BIG ARTIST, CHOKER SHARES THREE NEW PROJECTS

NOTHIN BUT HITS • Jul 07, 2020

Choker has been and was an instant favorite of here at NBH ever since he hopped on the scene a couple years ago. One big reason being, his way of developing a transparent relationship with listeners while having relatively little to no social media presence. In today’s world that shows just how open and vulnerable he is through his music. Another being his ability to rearrange and structure his songs so precisely and beautifully that you wonder if you still listening to the same song you started because your mind dozes off into this wonderful soundscape of lovely productions.

So to start the year off right, the Michigan native did what he knows best — bless us with the good music we’ve been longing for. The mysterious singer/songwriter decided, instead of one cohesive project like previous full-lengths, “Peak” (2017) and “Honeybloom” (2018), he was going drop three, 3-song EPs a week apart from one another. Each brought their own unique sound with “Mono No Toto” setting the tone as the first of the projects to be unveiled. The EP featured stand out record, “Petrol Bliss” that not only received a visual but led off the project and brought a more uplifting, dance-like feel that sustained through all the way through the end of “Gradient.” Next up, “Dog Candy” provided us with that unorthodox production work we love to hear from Choker. Starting with constant beat switch ups throughout on tracks like “Dualshock” and “Master P” while maintaining an underlying groove with soulful and elongated hums lingering in the background and on the outros.

Lastly, Choker followed up with his third and final release, “Forever & A Few.” Laced with more minimalistic and guitar-driven productions out of the three, we get a good glimpse at Choker’s brilliant, delegate songwriting — evident in tracks like “Lucky” and “Guppy.” Needless to say all three projects highlight the undeniable musical ability processed by this young up and coming artist. And even though it seems unlikely we’ll be getting any more new music from Choker in the near future, be sure to check out all three EP and visuals to hold you over. Enjoy.

Goddard and Cat Burns started the new year with a heater! These two went in and might have just made one of the best dNb tracks to come out this year and we're barely getting started. Wasted Youth is about an old lover venting their frustrations about the end of a long-term relationship in their cherished youth. Our youth is a highlight we all remember throughout our lives and Burns packs the feels and emotions that stir the pot of memories and emotions those who experienced this type of breakup might feel. Her voice is booming and beautiful throughout and, all in all, Wasted Youth is an emotional, high-energy hit that is ready to be blasted across the airwaves in the year to come.
