"Donda" Isn't The Album We Wanted, But Is A Step In The Right Direction From Kanye

After debuting three different versions of his forthcoming album at live shows over the past two weeks, the latest being in his hometown of Chicago, Kanye West has finally released his highly anticipated album Donda. In tribute to his late-mother, Donda West, Ye crafted this 26-track project in her honor, starting the album off, fittingly, with a self-titled track where "Donda" is chanted 50+ times in a row. God, love, and forgiveness are the omnipresent themes throughout the entirety of this album. Compared to past projects where it seemed as though Ye was "asking" for forgiveness while he shared his love and praise for God, it feels as though the opposite is taking place on "Donda". Because of his strong love for the almighty, Ye moves as though he is already forgiven for any and every possible wrongdoing, particularly those of the last 4+ years that have alienated some of his fans.
"Donda" isn't the album we, as fans, wanted. We wanted a concise project with complete thoughts. We wanted pristine verses with timely guest features. We wanted standout singles where, down the road, we hear stories of how Ye made artists redo their verses until they were more than perfect. In a way, we wanted the "old Kanye" back. While it's arguable whether or not all of these wants are present on this album, what is true is that "Donda" is, musically, a step in the right direction for Kanye. With over 20+ guest appearances from the likes of Jay-Z, Roddy Ricch, and Don Toliver to Travis Scott, Baby Keem, the Sunday Service Choir, and many more, "Donda" is one of Kanye's most heavy guest featured projects to date. Combine the musical sounds of The Life of Pablo and Jesus Is King with the collaborative effort of My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, you get "Donda".
