Akeem Ali Keeps it Pimpin on "Mack in the Day"

While he's been around since prior to 2019, Akeem Ali's recent rise all started once he dropped his single Keemy Casanova in 2020. The slick talking, straight from the '70s alter ego of Ali is a mack in every sense of the word. "I'm a mathematician / Subtracting and adding my digits / I need accuracy so don't you be distracting my business / I'm a Mack with the accolades to prove it / I tell all my bitches on a Saturday to move it", Ali says in his verse on "Keemy Casanova".
While we get the gist of just who this "pimp", Keemy Casanova, is, on the single, Ali felt we needed to really understand a day-in-the-life of Keemy, so a couple weeks ago he released a 6-track EP and a short film titled
Mack in the Day. Ali gives us a small taste of what the day of the mack is like. Directed by Maya Table, the films starts off with showing us how the mack starts his day as "Keemy Casanova" plays before transitioning into the rest of the day's activities. The film ultimately concludes with the song I Wanna Roll as Keemy closes out his night with his main lady.
The groovy shit talking, women stealing alter ego of Ali is a character I can't wait to see more of. Ali is not only a wordsmith, but is just as entertaining in person as well. I got the chance to see Ali perform the EP in Atlanta at Peter Street Station and it couldn't have been a better show. So after you listen to the project and watch the visuals as well, make sure to buy tickets the next time Ali comes to a city near you.
