GQ Magazine crowned Future ‘The Best Rapper Alive’ on its May 2022 cover, which is truly arguable. What Future means to the sound of not only trap music, but hip-hop as a whole, today is undeniable. This rollout ultimately led to him dropping his new album, I Never Liked You. Future knows how to ride on controversy because anyone that sees the title of the album will be moved to think that he was referring to his ex. However, the title of his album, "I Never Liked You" has nothing to do with his ex.
The album features some of the rap heavy weights in the industry including Kanye West, Young Thug, Gunna, EST Gee, and Drake. While Future stays true to his sound throughout the 16-track album, no two songs sound alike. Likewise, the message from the album is diverse often sliding between money, women, and street life. One of my favorite tracks was Love You Better. Here, Future slows it down and reveals his gentle side as well as the reason behind the gentility. While I love Future’s voice and his rap-trap style, the features added flavor to his album like a well-seasoned cuisine. Perhaps, it is time to update your playlist if you are a trap music fan.
